PIPA Testing Inflatables for Safety
Bouncy castle Safety
PIPA is an inspection scheme set up by the Inflatable Play Industry to ensure that inflatable equipment conforms to recognised European Safety Standards.
The Scheme is supported by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
All Inflatable Play Equipment, Bouncy Castles, Disco Domes, Inflatable Slides, Moonwalks, Soft air mountains, Obstacle Courses, and other inflatables designed for bouncing and sliding that fall within the scope of the PIPA scheme should be Tagged and entered into the PIPA Database.
The PIPA scheme currently only covers Equipment within the scope of BS EN 14960 and Some NON ride on Games
All other inflatables like ball pools, Gladiator Duels, Rock and Rolls, Bungee Runs, Rodeo Bulls, Its a knockout style inflatables, and inflatable games, etc still need testing as there being hired out for reward and they will become subject to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, This Act places a duty of care on everyone involved in the transaction.
In addition, the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulation 1998 PUWER requires that all work equipment which includes all inflatables and accessories be tested by a competent person at suitable intervals.
For all inflatables that are not covered in the BS EN 14960 Scope, we will Test and Inspect them to the same Standard but are not able to PIPA tag them at the moment, we will issue an IPT Test Certificate for all items not covered by the BS EN 14960 Standard.

The above 2 pictures are a good reason for the testing of all inflatables, the slide was holding good pressure and when we inspected under the slip sheet there was a large seam with a hole in it, I don’t think it would have been long before it was large enough for a child to pass into the inflatable. The operator had no idea it was there until we inspected it.
